Teachers held memorial events and rallies in Seoul and other parts of the country on Monday to commemorate the recent deaths of their colleagues and to demand proper measures to better protect their rights and prevent such tragedies.
월요일 서울과 전국 각지에서 교사들은 사망한 동료 교사들을 추모하고 교권 보호 및 더 이상의 비극 예방을 위한 적절한 대책을 요구하기 위해 추모행사와 집회를 열었다.
Principals of nearly 40 elementary schools designated the day a discretionary holiday, while a considerable number of teachers in other schools took their yearly leave or even their sick leave in order to participate in the collective action.
40여개 초등학교 교장들이 이날을 임시휴일로 지정했고, 이외 다른 학교 교사 상당수도 단체행동에 참여하기 위해 연차휴가나 병가를 냈다.
In order to minimize disruptions, some schools shortened teaching hours, while others combined classes. Some parents did not send their children to school as a way to show their support for the collective action of teachers.
혼란을 최소화하기 위해 수업 시간을 단축하는 학교, 통합 수업을 실시하는 학교 등이 있었다. 일부 학부모는 교사의 집단행동에 대한 지지 표명을 위해 자녀를 등교시키지 않았다.
Monday was considered special as it marked the 49th day since a young teacher at Seoul Seo2 Elementary School in southern Seoul took her own life, allegedly after struggling to deal with complaints from parents of some of her students regarding an assault case.
